Simple Pleasures Make Life Beautiful, Or... How to Do It Up in Style!

How many people do you know that are so good at enjoying the simple pleasures in life, and really have a knack for creative and special ways of celebrating? My good friend visited me this weekend for a belated birthday celebration, and she certainly is one of those people. Starting things off, deliciously refreshing Italian natural grapefruit soda, made into birthday cocktails; typical of her ability to think of little, but so special treats. Sweet, thoughtful gifts were next, simply yet beautifully presented. This time, a stunning orchid, flowering in my favorite colors. She's one of the few people that still make her own gorgeous handmade art cards, which I love, and find so much more personal. We stepped out to dine, enjoying every moment in a bustling, charming Bistro, where the staff was friendly, accommodating with attention paid to small details, so everything we drank and ate was as delightful to the eye as to the palate. Desserts (those being tiramisu, one of the most delicate ever, and a phyllo basket with fresh banana crème) were taken home and later shared over homemade cappuccinos (mine with Kahlua!). We ate, savored, and talked until the wee hours of the morning. To me, these are some of the most memorable moments in friendship, in relationships, in family and in life. Time well spent, relaxing and enjoying all the joy of good conversation and good food, of thoughtfulness and caring, time spent together enjoying the time and effort someone has made to create beautiful moments. Thanks so much, Gretchen!
