Simple Secrets: Essential Lessons On Love & Responsibilty

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one sees rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

From Antoine de St. Exupery's classic tale "The Little Prince". The Fox gently explains to the Prince; "Men have forgotten this truth, but you must not forget it... You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose."
"I am responsible for my rose" the Prince repeated, so he would not forget...

  3. I read "The Little Prince" about 10 years ago as an adult (I borrowed a copy from the library). What a wonderful story. I do not remember this particular part of the story since it is hard for me to recall everything I read. And often when I read, I do miss an essential truth and am too fixed on the plot. Thanks for bringing this quote to your blog, which I discovered today. (I found your blog through another blog, "Confessions of a Cluttered Mind," which I have been avidly following.)

  4. @ MikeB- Thanks so much for your comments - I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it! It is a timeless book, and it is my opinion that this exchange between the Prince and the Fox is the crux of the story.

  6. I have been reading many of your posts today, going back in time, and I just read this post and then looked at the comments, and I see I had already discovered you in August (see my comment above). Well, here I am again.

For a time, I have been reading a lot of news stories on the computer. I have also aimlessly read about many topics on Wikipedia. All a way to pass the time, I think, and perhaps to avoid more intimate human contact and using my time more productively.

As I read and commented this morning on many of your posts, I had a thought: Perhaps I am beginning to have a love affair with blogs; it is as if my computer has grown arms and is reaching out to hold me and comfort me. That is what some of the posts of YogaSavy and you do for me. It is at once comforting (for you and YogaSavy have many helpful insights) and frightening (am I becoming a machine, devoid of human touch and interaction?).

  7. @ Mike: well, welcome back! and I say: not to worry, I believe it is part of the process. I myself became immersed i music; it's effect on me was truly profound. It is a way to pull inward. But the very fact you have that thought, that you are aware of it, shows you are moving along the path more than you realize. When you are ready, you will find you can let go... of blogs, and many other things. I'm glad I can offer some insights, because I too find others' experiences helpful. And I find your comments quite insightful as well. thank you for sharing.
