pure thoughts...

 "All that we are is the result of what we have thought;
If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him.  If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him."

  2. @YS: agreed! thought this quote the crux of all Buddhist thought, and a guide for happy living, in general.

  3. I have been in the Philippines for 30 days. I am back now. The Buddha quote is a most interesting thought. But what if a man speaks or acts with an evil thought one day and a pure thought the next? We humans are too complex to be one way all the time. At least, I am.

  4. Welcome Back MikeB! Re:your comment-Thanks! To explain a bit further:This is a call to awareness, to try to discipline our thinking. All of us are complex, having random thoughts, good and bad. The idea is to note what happens when you do, and to have the goal of good thoughts more often, till they fill your life. According to the Buddha (and to my own experience as well!) when you have good thoughts, everything goes better. And when you don't - the same follows. Try it - and let us know the results!

  5. I have often had good thoughts and intentions, and I sometimes I actually follow through on them in action (but I won't pat myself on the shoulder by giving examples). These situations bring ME much joy. Conversely, I have said and done things I have regretted, and sometimes I have made amends (once, at least, I made amends years later, and the person I had spoken to harshly did not even recall the incident when I apologized for my words). There is no sense in having a lot of bad thoughts, which just bring you down. I think I have done pretty well so far, but I continue to strive to be an even better person.

  6. From you words, here is what might discern: Sounds to me that you are doing as well as any of us can hope to...you feel badly when you hurt another, you try to make amends. You have self-awareness,and an awareness of how your actions may impact others. You strive to think positively and be a better human being. This is living well!
