Finding Harmony With The Universe

"Humankind must be a steward of the Earth;
Caretakers for all that dwells upon it; To be of one heart with all things.
Human beings must learn to share the tears of every living thing,
To feel in our hearts the pain of the wounded animal, each crushed blade of grass."

This beautiful yarn art is typical of the Wixáritari handcrafts, which are full of symbolic images related to nature and their connection to it. The Wixáritari (or more commonly Huichol) are an indigenous people of western central Mexico. They and their beliefs are intricately connected with  the earth and nature.  I think we can learn much from the indigenous cultures of the world.
At least,  I wish we would...

  1. What an absolutely beautiful work of art! And what a wonderful sentiment.

  2. Hi MikeB - so nice to have you visit! I love this amazing fiber art! And it may give you an additional appreciation for their attitude and their art - to know that Wixáritari often make use of peyote in their religious ceremonies.
