Fav Quote Friday | Body and Spirit: This Ephemeral Life

 "What is life?
It is the flash of a firefly in the night.
It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime.
It is the little shadow which
runs across the grass
and loses itself in the sunset."

~Crowfoot,  Blackfoot Warrior & Orator, 1830-1890

Images:
Buddhist Monk Sand Mandalas being swept away.
Sand mandalas take many hours of constant, detailed work,
often taking a week or more to complete.
After all that,
the piece is destroyed, sweeping away the
sand completely, as if it had never existed.
This is done to symbolize the impermanence of life,
a reminder to avoid
material attachments,
to shatter our illusions of permanence
and that the state of life is ever-changing,
and how we need to change along with it
to be harmonious.

In what ways do you adapt to or
remind
yourself of
the ephemeral nature of life?

  1. Incredible thoughts by Crowfoot. Some people can write so poetically and beautifully.

Your questions are always thought provoking.
