Images:
Buddhist Monk Sand Mandalas being swept away.
Sand mandalas take many hours of constant, detailed work,
often taking a week or more to complete.
After all that, the piece is destroyed, sweeping away the
sand completely, as if it had never existed.
This is done to symbolize the impermanence of life,
a reminder to avoid material attachments,
to shatter our illusions of permanence
and that the state of life is ever-changing,
and how we need to change along with it
to be harmonious.
In what ways do you adapt to or
remind yourself of
the ephemeral nature of life?
